Dell Firmware Principal Engineer in Taipei, Taiwan

State-of-the-art products demand state-of-the-art firmware, and that’s the role of our Firmware Engineering team. We lead and deliver the analysis, design, programming, debugging, troubleshooting or modification of software for firmware applications. Our team oversees programming activities involving analog and digital hardware as well as software operating systems. We also influence product development at all stages. In short, we use the latest technology to modify existing solutions, in addition to developing innovative new software and firmware solutions.

What you’ll achieve

As a Firmware engineer, you’ll work with an experienced team of engineers to develop BIOS and/or firmware/ software for next generation tablet, notebook, workstation, thin-client and desktop products to drive industry IP / feature development. You’ll apply skills and experience across the full cycle of software development (specifications, reviews, development and review, debug and validation) to enable features and capabilities of platforms in areas like thermal, power management, security, manageability, manufacturability and configurability. Our team is part of the End User Computing organization and it is a critical area of investment for differentiation of our products. We deliver solutions and features for platforms across the business client space as well as some select consumer space products. You will:

  • Working with Industry forums for spec development like UEFI, DMTF, PCI Sig, ACPI, etc…

  • Take ideas from concept phase to delivery. This includes creating design docs, scoping design and requirements, detailed spec creation, Proof of Concept design and implementation/productizing

  • Distill complex concepts into material marketing and non-technical teams can understand

  • Collaborate cross teams and organizations to drive most suitable ideas and gain alignment

  • Responsible for overall UEFI/Firmware platform design throughout the platform lifecycle

Essential Requirements

  • 8+ years experience in BIOS / firmware Software development and expertise with modern PC system architectures

  • Low level programming capability (system/motherboard/device/chipset level) and familiarity with higher level programming (apps / tools)

  • Proven track record is product development/design with strong Program Management skillset is a must

  • Experience with analyzers and other Hardware tools to debug complex system Software issues

  • Agile software development experience

Desirable Requirements

  • Technical problem solving skills / debug capabilities and UEFI Programming expertise is strongly desired
